Now available: tickets for winter 2025/2026
Since Wednesday 16 April 2025, tickets can be booked for winter 2025/2026. Are you ready for take-off?

Good news: changes to cabin bag dimensions from 12 May 2025!

We have reviewed our hand luggage policy. It appears that we can offer slightly more space for cabin bags on our flights. ‘Cabin baggage’ refers to a trolley or, for example, a large backpack that does not fit under the seat. Starting this summer, cabin bag dimensions will be adjusted.

What will change?
We are not just following most other airlines. We are going a little further. Airlines use either our current size (55 x 35 x 25) or the size 55 x 40 x 20. These are the two most popular cabin bagage sizes. They are the same in terms of volume and content but do not fit together in the sizers. That is why we have combined these two sizes into 55 x 40 x 25 so that all these suitcases will fit in the Transavia sizers.

That means that from 12 May 2025, you can take a slightly larger cabin bag on board:
→ New maximum dimensions: 55 x 40 x 25 cm (previously 55 x 35 x 25 cm). The weight remains the same, at maximum 10 kg combined with hand luggage.

Transavia luggage sizers at the airports will be adjusted accordingly. This way passengers will know exactly where they stand.

We emphasise that since November 2024, it has no longer been possible to take a cabin bag of up to 10 kg free of charge as standard, even if passengers book through a tour operator.

But you can still take one piece of hand luggage measuring max. 40 x 30 x 20 cm for free, such as a small backpack or handbag. These must always be placed under the seat in front. The total weight of the hand luggage (small item plus cabin bag) must not exceed 10 kg per person.

Evaluation of cabin bags for passengers booked through travel agencies
We have noticed that a large number of passengers who have booked through some of our partners have not been fully informed or have unfortunately even received incorrect information. This often results in unpleasant situations with passengers having to pay extra at the airport. This is, of course, not desirable, and almost always results in a very negative customer experience of this part of the trip. Passengers who are well informed generally interpret our hand luggage policy positively.

Most common situations:
- Travel documents contain the wrong information. The passenger thinks they are entitled to something and only finds out that they need to pay extra at the airport.

- It is not always clear to passengers that it is better to pay for a cabin bag in advance. This is always cheaper than at the airport.

- We also notice that many passengers bring a large backpack as a ‘personal item’. That’s fine, but it must not exceed 40 x 30 x 20 cm. If the backpack is larger, we consider it a cabin bag for which passengers must pay extra.

We kindly ask our travel industry partners to adjust their communication with customers. Then we can avoid nasty surprises at the airport and ensure that our customers experience a smooth start to their trip.

Do you need help communicating this to your customers in the best possible way? Feel free to contact us — we’d be happy to help!
