Booker’s tip: the Italian paradise in Calabria

The town of Lamezia Terme is located in the province of Calabria, south of Naples. This is the perfect place for beach and nature lovers to enjoy a well-earned holiday. Fun facts about Calabria

• About 2 million people live in Calabria. The largest city is Reggio Calabria.
• The region has not yet been discovered by mass tourism. It is mainly visited by Italians (July-August) and Germans (May-Oct).
• Summers in Calabria are dry and hot. May, June and September are sunny and dry with temperatures of 25-30 °C.
• ‘Tartufo’ is the ice cream speciality of the village of Pizzo. This cake is shaped like a truffle (‘tartufo’ means truffle), it has a soft, melted chocolate centre coated in ice cream and sprinkled with cacao powder.
